EMMA!

jane austen novels. ^ it's easy to get so caught up in them once you start. it's like floating in your own dream world of tattered up pages (if you like to reread your old books). now when the mini movies start airing every sunday in 3 parts, it's hard not to fall in love with the novels and characters all over again. enough to make you want to dig up your old jane austen books, only to re-read emma, pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility, northanger abbey and all...

just recently, pbs aired jane austen's classic, emma. masterpiece classic's emma has been THE best one i've seen in comparison to another version i've watched in the past. michael gambon (wives and daughters, harry potter), jonny lee miller (sighhhhh, though i still prefer colin firth's mr. darcy) and romola garai made jane austen's novel come to life. everything about their characters were portrayed excellently and so believable too. it was heaven to watch and i cannot wait to own the dvd!

quirky comment on shopaholic.

last night i was going through some of my books to trade for other books at another cute ma/pa bookshop i found while strolling through downtown campbell & anyway figured i should trade in all my paperback shopaholic book series. i've just been attached to those books-but it's not like it's hardcover so i should just trade it in for other things i want (like this awesome vintage book copyright 1945) .. so back to topic, i'm flipping through shopaholic ties the knot to see if i've left anything in the book (scribble papernotes/bookmarks/doodles) & i just start rereading a few pages...

this is a completely random thought, but i noticed a little mistake? if i can call it that. so the heroine, rebecca bloomwood, who's originally from england makes a career move to new york. the whole book series starts out taking place inside of england - not new york- so in the page i stumbled upon i noticed one of the newer characters introduced in the 3rd bookstory, who is a new york native (wedding planner receptionist), well basically rebecca wants to call off wedding in new york & have it in london where her family, friends & home are located, so wedding planner receptionist asks why she'd want to call off wedding & asked rebecca, "have you had a row with luke?..." (luke is the fiance)

of course assuming wedding planner receptionist is a new york native, isn't it interesting that she asked if rebecca (becky) bloomwood had a "row" with her fiance.. instead of asking if they had a "fight", "disagreement", or "argument"? i mean we all know the author is based in england, but i just thought it was a funny catch that i didn't even notice the first time reading it back when i did.

on that note, i'm really scared to see the movie version of confessions of a shopaholic. still haven't seen it. i'm afraid the movie will ruin the whole book series for me. i'm really disappointed they didn't stay true to the character. i mean - & i know that often times books turned movies always has some minor changes, editing, additions to make movie more interesting...how could they take away the heart of where the heroine is originally from? it's part of the charm of the entire story?! plus, i heard the main character of that movie has an aussie accent already - she could have easily done a british accent instead of vocal coaching for an american non-accent right?
